Who We Are:
Ashley P. Quach, writer and executive producer, wrote the story in one feverish night at the prompting of a dear friend. It began with the distorted idea of apple seeds and a hole in the ground.
It grew from there into a concise snapshot of a captive's psyche on the day of her planned escape.
Ashley's screenplays have contended for the Nicholl's fellowship (quarterfinals 2009) and the National Youth Theatre fellowship (finalist 2012). The screenplay for Appleseeds was one of three finalists in the 2012 screenplay contest sponsored by One Shoot Films.
Robyn Dettman, an award-winning director and producer, was drawn to the script because of its subtlety and frankness. "It's an open window to something familiar and unsettling. The horror comes about so stealthily...you can't separate yourself from it."
After co-producing and directing the successful web series We Have To Stop Now, Robyn launched her production company, Duendefilms West. She has since directed a steady stream of projects, from the controverial music video Politician to the PBS series Snap Judgement. More recently, Robyn has been engaged with developing two full length films: Shesus of Abilene with writer William Pace and The Clovis9 with Ashley Quach.
What We Need
It will take $15,000 to fund this short film. That money will go fulfill our modest budget: hiring a cast and crew, securing camera, light and sound equipment, transportation, catering, costuming, editing, sound mixing, color correction and PR/Marketing.
Our production date is June 29th 2012 and we intend to produce this short film with all the funds received here along with key in-kind production contributions including reduced rates for cast and crew, donated rentals and post production services.
What You Get
Contributors will gain access to behind-the-scenes updates in addition to the one-of-a-kind perks offered here.
Rest assured, when we say "one-of-a-kind", we mean it. Personalized messages and doodles from creator Ashley Quach can range from an ink drawing of tap dancing crocodiles to a page torn straight from her production journal.
Keep an eye out for flash sales of special gifts! (Mystery! Surprise!)
Just listen to these satisfied customers:
"Ashley Quach sent this cartoon o' me and Winston Churchill looking for love in the Women's Plus department at Nordstroms, along with a box of homemade Madeleines." -D. Chinn
"Cake in a jar? ...A Burt Reynolds book? There is so much awesomeness in that one box I don't know how to process it." -J. Wang
"It's the thought that counts." -Ashley's mom.
The Impact
We see this film as a unique way to start a dialogue regarding women's issues in domestic violence, child abuse and how the ripples of these horrors are a universal issue. We intend to donate all proceeds from benefit screenings to local and national organizations that help women and children at risk and incorporate today's prominent female thought leaders in screening discussions concerning gender representation in media and film.
Duendefilms West Productions will feature this short in prominent film festivals around the world, including Cannes, market-based festivals and Academy Award qualifiers.
